In 1956 the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa acquired, Lardizabal family, called the Forest Preserve Laurgain for 504 hectares, in order to enhance their natural values, restore your hardwood stands and protect fauna and flora.

In 1984 its area was expanded with the acquisition of its highest setting, the village Iturraran more Agorregi land and forges, and the farm Altzol a, almost doubling the pitch surface, and changing its name to Park Pagoeta , because this mountain is geographic center of the park.

Pagoeta Park , 1343 hectares, extending from a minimum elevation of 50 meters above sea level to cross the mountain, the highest point, to 714, 0 meters. Over 1517 hectares of peripheral zone, making a total area of 2860 hectares.

You can also visit a botanical garden with over 1000 species of plants, trees and shrubs.

At the bottom of valleys is the forge of Agorregi, a proto monument consisting of two mills and a forge with its canals, taxiways, jumps and gates.

In the vicinity of Mount Pagoeta we find two other villages that have been restored: the farmhouse Sagastizabal works as a School Environmental and Amezketa-Lardi farmhouse as a residence for school groups. The park also has a complete set of infrastructure footpaths, car parks, recreational and subsistence, to facilitate public access and enjoyment.

On top of Pagoeta predominantly treeless land covered with heather, gorse and ferns, which replace the old beech trees which gave name to the park and from there down by the cool spots to Agorre gi ironworks.

The dense shade of these beech understory consists block a hawthorn, heather, blueberries, whitebeams, hazel and holly.
